In Singapore, the cancellation of an Employment Pass (EP) typically occurs under the following circumstances: the expiry of the pass, changes in employment status, violations of regulations, or legal breaches.
Pass Expiration
EPs are typically valid for one to two years and require renewal in advance; otherwise, they will automatically expire. The EP pass must be renewed no later than six months before its expiration date.
Violate the Rules
If the applicant or employer violates relevant application regulations, such as providing false information or failing to comply with employment terms, it may also result in the cancellation of the EP.
Job Change
If the applicant leaves or is dismissed, the existing EP must also be canceled, and a new application must be submitted upon securing a new job.
Violate the Law
In 2025, a new provision was added: holders of long-term passes or other entry qualifications, including EPs, who possess or use e-cigarettes containing etomidate may have their passes or entry qualifications revoked upon a third offense, and will be deported with a ban on re-entry to Singapore.
