LTVP for Parent of a Child on Student's Pass
2026-07-27

Policy Guide | 2026 Latest Edition Complete Application Guidelines for LTVP for Parent or Grandparent of a Child or Grandchild Studying in Singapore on a Student's Pass

Many families of young international students plan to accompany their children to Singapore for care, but the current policy information is complex and outdated, which can easily lead to errors in application materials and rejection of approval. Based on the ICA's latest 2026 regulations, this article comprehensively outlines the eligibility criteria, mandatory requirements, document checklist, and approval considerations for LTVP applications, providing parents with clear guidance for the application process.

Definition of the Applicant's Qualification

Under current official policy, the child's father, mother, grandparents, and maternal grandparents are all eligible to apply for a Dependent Pass to accompany and care for their children studying in Singapore. During the validity period of the pass, they can freely enter and exit Singapore multiple times without the need to repeatedly apply for short-term tourist visas.

Essential Hard Requirements for Processing

1. Children attending school must hold a valid Singapore Student's Pass;

2. The document is valid for one year and requires renewal annually, with the validity period matching the child's student status: if the child turns 16 years old or the Student's Pass expires, the accompanying guardian status will be terminated simultaneously. If the remaining validity of the Student's Pass is less than one year, the accompanying guardian visa will be set to match the Student's Pass's validity period;

3. A local sponsor who is a Singapore citizen or PR aged 21 and above is required. He/She can log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor the application.

Translation Notarization Mandatory Requirements

You will need to provide original documents and official translations (for documents in languages other than English), and ICA only recognizes two types of compliant translated documents:

① Official translations issued by notary offices or embassies of the document-issuing country

② Notarized by a local practicing lawyer in Singapore, or privately translated documents authenticated by the embassy

High-Frequency Pitfall Avoidance Tips

1. Holding the Student's Pass does not guarantee the approval of LTVP for Parent of a Child on Student's Pass application. The ICA will conduct a comprehensive review of factors such as family relationships, financial capacity, and the eligibility of the sponsor;

2. Only one applicant (either the parent or grandparent of the child) may apply.

3. The Pass does not grant legal working rights. If employment in Singapore is required, a corresponding work pass must be separately applied for with the MOM;

4. Applications will be processed within 6 weeks, provided all the required documents are submitted and in order. Some applications may take longer to process.
