Guide to Chinese ID Renewal in Singapore

A: Your passport remains valid after the ID card expires and will not interfere with your daily affairs in Singapore.
Q: How can I renew my Chinese ID card from overseas?
A: You may entrust domestic relatives to complete the renewal procedures on your behalf.
Q: What documents are required for entrusted application?
A: Generally, the following documents need to be prepared:
1) Signed power of attorney stating your full name, ID number, expiry date of the old ID card, as well as the trustee’s name, ID number, kinship and contact information.
2) A copy of the bio-data page of your valid Chinese passport.
3) A copy of your valid Singapore visa / pass.
4) A photo of yourself holding the signed power of attorney together with your passport bio-data page.
5) The trustee’s original ID card.
Requirements vary among domestic public security bureaus in different cities. Please consult the police station of your registered permanent residence for detailed rules.
Q: Is fingerprint collection required for ID renewal?
A: No fingerprint capture is needed for renewal applications via entrusted agents.
Q: Can I use the old ID photo for the new card?
A: The portrait photo from your previous ID card is acceptable for renewal.
