How Singapore Citizens Renounce Inheritance in Mainland China

As a legal heir, you are entitled to renounce inheritance by issuing a formal Renunciation of Inheritance Declaration.

Case Illustration

Mr. X, a Singapore citizen residing in Singapore, inherited a property in China after his parents passed away. Unable to travel back to China in person, he signed a Renunciation of Inheritance Declaration and completed notarization plus Apostille certification locally in Singapore for domestic use.

Note: All formalities are processed within Singapore. As a Singapore-issued private document, the declaration must be certified to be legally accepted by Chinese authorities.

Step 1 Prepare Documents

Draft the Renunciation of Inheritance Declaration (request official templates from domestic receiving agencies) and prepare valid identity documents.

Step 2 Notarization by Singapore Notary Public

Appear before a licensed Notary Public to sign the declaration in person; the notary will verify authenticity and affix signature and official seal.

Step 3 Apply for Apostille at the Singapore Academy of Law

Submit the notarized document to the Singapore Academy of Law for Apostille certification. Under the Hague Apostille Convention effective between China and Singapore, the apostilled document can be used directly in mainland China.
